Across Nebraska, a new threat is spreading through our rural communities—large-scale biogas digesters tied to corporate factory farms. These projects are marketed as “clean energy” or “climate-friendly” solutions, but the truth on the ground tells a different story.

Biogas digesters are not designed to help family farms they're engineered to help industrial livestock operations grow even bigger, with fewer rules and more subsidies. These facilities concentrate massive amounts of manure, emit dangerous gases like methane and hydrogen sulfide, and put our water, air, and property values at risk.

Even worse, public tax dollars are being used to build and expand them, while family farmers are told to do more with less.

This petition is our way of standing up for clean water, for honest energy policy, and for the future of independent agriculture in Nebraska. If we don’t act now, we risk locking our communities into decades of industrial consolidation disguised as “green energy.”

We’re calling on state and local leaders to ban all new large-scale biogas digesters and to redirect resources toward real climate solutions that put family farms and rural communities first.

Join us. Sign the petition below and help protect what makes rural Nebraska strong.

We, the undersigned Nebraska farmers, rural residents, and concerned citizens, call for a statewide ban on all new large-scale biogas digesters.

These industrial digesters are not the “clean energy” solution we’ve been promised—they are a backdoor expansion plan for corporate factory farms that threaten the future of independent family agriculture in our state.

Here’s what’s really happening:

  • Family farms are being boxed out as digesters allow the biggest players to grow even bigger, centralize control, and drown out local producers.

  • Our air and water are being sacrificed to support these facilities, which concentrate massive amounts of manure, pump out dangerous gases like hydrogen sulfide and methane, and pollute groundwater with nitrates.

  • Rural tax dollars are being siphoned off into subsidies and incentives that don’t support working farmers—they support Wall Street-backed confinement operations.

Biogas digesters are just another form of industrial greenwashing—designed to prop up the factory farm model while eroding our land, communities, and way of life.

We believe Nebraska should:

- Ban the permitting and construction of new large-scale biogas digesters that serve industrial livestock operations
- Redirect public funds to support real on-farm conservation, soil health, and clean water practices
- Invest in true rural climate solutions like composting, regenerative grazing, and diversified renewable energy

We’ve always taken pride in being stewards of our land. But these digesters don’t belong here. They don’t support farmers—they support monopolies.

Stand with Nebraska Communities!
